Challenging the next generation of young minds...
The interdisciplinary character of my research also informs my approach to teaching. During, and immediately following, my postgraduate education, I gained valuable experience in teaching Greek and Latin language, Greek literature and ancient history classes at each of the institutions listed in the second paragraph of this letter. The wide diversity of modules that I have taught include Aeschines’ Against Timarchus, Xenophon’s Hellenica, Plato’s Apology and selected passages from other prose works such as Herodotus, Thucydides, Lysias and Antiphon. For the Open University of Cyprus I delivered an Intermediate Greek course to mature distance learners – a particularly challenging task that required the creation of online course materials and the use of interactive interfaces such as Blackboard. More information can be found in my CV. Teaching in three different educational and cultural contexts – the US, UK and Cyprus – has provided me with a good understanding of the needs of students from different backgrounds and has informed my teaching philosophy.

Teaching at the University College London
Greek Texts I
This term in Greek Texts 1 our task is to read, analyse, and discuss the language, style, and strategy of Plato’s Apology of Socrates, a fictionalized version of the “defence” speech given by Socrates at his trial in Athens in 399 BC. In parallel, we shall be revising the principles of Greek grammar covered in the second half of North and Hillard’s Greek Prose Composition, reacquainting ourselves with constructions that should be familiar from A-level and Intermediate Greek and developing our understanding of the way they function by translating from English into Greek. By the end of term, you will be expected firstly, to have a detailed knowledge of the language and style of Plato’s Apology and secondly, to be sufficiently confident with the constructions covered in the first half of North and Hillard, being able to translate them from Greek into English and using them to translate from English into Greek.
